Many of us have discussed the gamer auction site chasethechuckwagon.com.  On several occassions I’ve heard people say they can never remember the name of the site.  Since the site’s name is based on an obscure Atari 2600 title exclusively released by Purina back in the 80s–this is no surprise.  Apparently, this wasn’t an uncommon deterrent.  It would appear that with the latest upgrade to the site’s look & feel, a name change has accompanied the new look.  Behold the GameGavel:

gamegavel

The site still has a long way to go to be the next ebay, but they continually strive to make improvements.  Along with these enhancements comes a few little mistakes–like the poorly executed logo on the main page.  Don’t get me wrong! I like the simplicity but its jagged edges and somewhat unpolished glow clearly indicate it was designed on a small scale and blown up.  The immediate elimination of the animated gif or png for sharing auctions would be a good improvement as well.

All that aside, I like the new site name.  The word “gavel” invokes the imagination as you envision it smacking down to declare a winning bid.  The alliteration is perfectly executed to create a catchy and easily remembered name.  With more than 3,000 members and climbing, I think they’re taking the right steps to draw larger audiences into the fold.

Go chase the chuckwagon at GameGavel.com!

Good move… a better descriptive name. I think they brought in some new people over the summer. This was just a one man show to start with. Nice to see them moving forward.

    Hey Guys,

I want to say thanks to Madaracs for the post and plug here. The Logo is simply a place holder at this point. I am working on developing a more fine-tuned logo and will have it replaced as soon as I nail one down. The site is always in a state of flux. What is working what is not, removing things and adding things – it never ends. My goal is still to turn this into the #1 online destination to buy & sell games for gamers of all ages and all over the World. For now it is the most successful dedicated video gaming auction site ever but I felt it plateaued with the classic gaming crowd so I needed to try and make it appear more main stream. I think I have done that now to some extent. Next I am about 3/4 way through a “mobile” version and also have an Iphone game in the works that not only promotes the site but also turns searching live running auctions into a fun game.

I will also say I am in final discussions with a very large, popular, online gaming community that will get GameGavel infront of hundreds of thousands of gamers around the World. An official announcement will be coming very soon!

I always appreciate any input I can get regarding the site so feel free speak your mind. I do think that functionally it is nearly perfect. Listing is a joy and I think the search experience is improving.

So Cal Mike, Founder (and still the only employee at this point)

Wow! Thanks for dropping by. I have a bunch of duplicate 2600 games to unload… probably use gamegavel to help out on that.

  4. MadaracsNo Gravatar Said,

Yes, thank you for stopping in. As Mike already knows, I’m a member. Ever since I purchased this. *twists knife in Commander Wilsipedia’s side* ;-)

I’ve also substantially filled out my Coleco collection on gamegavel.com.
