Curious to see how Universal will write a story around shooting rocks in space. Also giving the same treatment to the board game, Battleship. The Article.

    ASTEROIDS: THE MOVIE

MAIN TITLE SEQUENCE (TO BE DESIGNED)

    FADE IN: IN BLACK

Absolute quiet. SOUND bleeds in. Low Level b.g. NOISES of bridge, clicking of relays, minor electronical effects. We hear a FEMALE VOICE.

    NAVIGATOR’S VOICE

    Spaceblog entry eighty-

    one-thirty point three. Spaceship

H.M.S. Triangle on training mission to

    Gamma Hydra. Section Fourteen,

    coordinates twenty-two/eighty-seven/

four. Approaching Asteroid Belt Gamma 2-1-B,

    all systems normal and functioning.

    INT. HMS TRIANGLE BRIDGE

As the ANGLE WIDENS, we see the crew at stations; (screens
and visual displays are in use); The HELMSMAN at the
helm, The COMM OFFICER at the Comm Console, DR DOOGIE HOUSER
and SCIENCE OFFICER at their posts. The Captain is new – and
unexpected. The CAPTAIN is young and beautiful. She is
half human and half Canadian. In appearance she is HOT
with sexy ears, but her skin is fair and she has none
of the expressionless facial immobility of a veterinarian.

    HELMSMAN

Leaving Section Fourteen for Section Fifteen.

    CAPTAIN

    Stand by. Project parabolic course

    to avoid entering Asteroid Belt.

    HELMSMAN
    Aye, Captain. Course change

    projected.

    COMM OFFICER

    (suddenly)

    CAPTAIN! We’re trapped in the

    middle of the asteroid belt!

    CAPTAIN

We’re over our heads. Arm all shooty

    things! Fire repeatedly and hope

to God we don’t see any UFOs out

    here!

Heh, good stuff! Gridcycle crew should do a version.

Another funny blurb from the NY Times – http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/07/02/how-will-hollywood-ruin-the-asteroids-movie/
