I thought we could start a post about what each of us will volunteer to bring to the 6th retro video-gaming party so we can minimize on dupe machines, consoles, games and whatnot.

I’m bringing:

  • 4 – 13″ Color TVs
  • 1 Black and White TV
  • Super Pong IV
  • Odyssey 4000 (Could use a color dial TV for this bad boy if anyone wants to bring one.)
  • Odyssey2 with ‘The Voice’. Games: Smithereens (the best of the voice games), U.F.O. and Sub Chase for sure.
  • Sega Genesis with 32X, Flight Stick with Afterburner and Probably SW: Arcade.
  • NES with some Rip Off Chinese games, some famicom classics and a few favorites. (Contra? Tecmo Super Bowl?)
  • Vectrex
  • Arcade:  Ms. Pac-Man or Tron.  Probably not both.
  • I may bring my Game Console stand too…
  • I’m going to bring a GBA SP and some controllers so we can play Pac-Man Vs.  (either on my Game Cube or Matt’s)

I think I’ll also do a podcast of the event.

One game at Funspot that I never saw before was Donkey Kong II. From my limited searching, looks like this is a homebrew hack of Donkey Kong done a few years back. Just need to swap out a chip or two to convert a vanilla DK machine into a DKII machine. Took me awhile, but I finally found the roms and an emulator so you can play the game at home. I managed to watch the tail end of the record DK2 game, 380+k points. Other records that were broke at Funspot XI can be found in this thread.

Now why didn’t I think of this?

Things are nearing completion now. Here’s the status of the machines:

Centipede – I just need to add a blue cardboard bezel behind the glass bezel and it will be 100% complete.
Mortal Kombat – The control panel still looks crappy but I don’t know if I’ll get around to cleaning it up any time soon. The cabinet still has Street Fighter side art and bezel. I’m not sure when or if I’ll get around to replacing them.
Relief Pitcher – 100% Complete.
Battle Arena Toshinden 2 – I need to cut the marquee down to size so it will fit in the cabinet. I also need a new monitor bezel and plexiglas.
MAME – I still need to wire up a kick harness for the 6 additional buttons. I also need a new bezel and some plexiglas. I’m also going to wire up a power button for the computer up on the top where the power switch would normally be for that cabinet.

I still have that other empty cabinet. If POI still wants to give me his old 19″ TV, I’ll start piecing that thing together as well for console games.

Oh yeah, there’s the pinball machine, too.

All of this stuff is in my garage. I’m sure my neighbors are convinced I’m insane. I need to do some more cleaning in the garage after which all of the machines will be lined up along the back wall. I should have that done this week. Then I’ll post pictures.

My turn to report in.

Vectrex:  Arrived today.  Well broken in.  Only tried Mine Storm and Rip-off.  Plays well and the games were lots of fun.  They need a good cleaning because it is hit ‘n miss if they work.  The controller’s joystick doesn’t center in the up/down, but it does in the left/right.  Don’t know if this is the way it is supposed to be… I suspect not.  The monitor has a noisy hum, but this is common among Vectrex’s.  Received 8 games along with main unit.

Colecovision:  Arrived yesterday.  This didn’t work very well when I first got it.  It has what is called a sprite shift.  Mario would speckle and even shift left and right.  Unplayable.  From internet, I learned that the on/off switch was the probable culprit.  I opened up the CV, and hit the on/off switch with compressed air/lubricant.  That seemed to do the trick.  Mario was now in focus.  Got 11 games with this.

Mame:  Lots of added stuff to my Slikstick/Mame computer…  Made a stand for the monitor.  Plugged in some better speakers and put them inside of the stand.  Installed a panel for plugging in controllers and the speakers in the front.  I have USB adapters for plugging in Atari/NES/SNES controllers.  Wireless network adapter installed.  Drilled a hole for plugging in the power more easily.  Attached a USB TV adapter so you can plug in game consoles to it.

All righty… now a picture.  Colecovision Q-bert is on the screen. Vectrex has Rip-off running on it.  Yes, that’s in my living room… the bachelor life is rough!
